Building a fan email list from your release pages

Followers on a platform can disappear with an algorithm change. An email address is a direct line to someone who wants to hear from you. Your release pages are the best place to collect them, because that is where interested people already are.

Why email, and why release pages

Social reach goes up and down; an email reaches the inbox of someone who asked for it. For a musician, that list is most valuable on release day and when you announce shows, because the people on it are the most likely to listen, buy a ticket or share.

The best moment to ask for an address is when someone is already paying attention: they tapped your link, saw the artwork and are deciding where to listen. That is your release page.

Double opt-in, and why it is worth it

With double opt-in, someone who leaves their address gets an email asking them to confirm, and only then joins your list. It costs you a few sign-ups and gives you a list of real, reachable people who actually want your emails — fewer typos, fewer spam complaints, better delivery. In many countries it is also the safest way to show consent.

On listenthru, every sign-up is confirmed this way. The confirmation link asks the person to press a button, so a mail scanner opening the link does not confirm for them.

Three reasons to sign up

  • A release-day reminder. Before release day, the form asks “email me when it’s out”. On release day the listener gets one email with the link, in their own language. It is the easiest yes for someone who will not pre-save.
  • An unlock. Give fans something extra — a demo, a download, an unlisted video, a private SoundCloud or Drive link. It never appears on the page; fans get it only after confirming their address.
  • News of new releases. An unticked box lets people ask for an email whenever you release something new. Those who tick it get one automatically on the release day of each new release page you make before its date.

Set it up, step by step

  1. Turn on the sign-up form

In listenthru’s Fans section, switch on the sign-up form. It appears on your release pages and your artist page.

  2. Give people a reason

Before release day the form offers a release-day email. You can also add an unlock — a demo, a download or an unlisted video — that fans receive after confirming.

  3. Let double opt-in do its job

Each new address gets a confirmation email in the listener’s language. Only confirmed addresses join your list.

  4. Write to your fans

Send a short email to all your confirmed fans or a segment: those who signed up on one release, in one country, or in one language.

  5. Take your list with you

On Pro, download your confirmed list as a CSV for any email tool.

Where to ask

  • Before release day, on the release page: the reminder is the natural reason to leave an address.
  • On your artist page, for people who arrive from your bio wanting more of you.
  • In your posts: say what people get — “the demo is for the email list” — and point to the page.
  • At shows: a QR code for your artist page on the merch table or the screen.

Writing to your list

From the dashboard you can send a short email from your artist name to your confirmed fans: a subject, a message and an optional button. You see a preview and the number of people it goes to before it sends. Every copy has a one-click unsubscribe link. The number of emails you can send each month depends on your plan.

Segments let you be more relevant than “everyone”: fans who signed up on a particular release, in a particular country, in a particular language or from a particular source. A show announcement for one city goes to fans in that country, not to everyone.

  • Keep it short. One news item and one link.
  • Write like you talk. The email comes from your name.
  • Do not only send links: a story behind the song, a photo from the studio, a thank-you after release.

Your list, your responsibility

You are responsible for the list you collect: what you send and how you look after it. listenthru keeps the list for you, sends the confirmation and the emails you write, and never passes addresses to ad platforms. You can remove anyone from your list, and anyone can unsubscribe at any time. On Pro, you can download your confirmed list as a CSV to use in another email tool.
